John Denver was a singing poet, do you agree?
I have a book of all his song lyrics, one of the best poetry reads around! Example: Annie's Song You fill up my senses Like a night in the forest Like the mountains in springtime Like a walk in the rain Like a storm in the desert Like a sleepy blue ocean You fill up my senses Come fill me again Come let me love you Let me give my life to you Let me drown in your laughter Let me die in your arms Let me lay down beside you Let me always be with you Come let me love you Come love me again Let me give my life to you Come let me love you Come love me again You fill up my senses Like a night in the forest Like the mountains in springtime Like a walk in the rain Like a storm in the desert Like a sleepy blue ocean You fill up my senses Come fill me again to hear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkGS263lGsQ&feature=related What are YOUR favorite Denver lyrics, the most poetic to you? - You feel up my senses is one of the best ever written.
- Is this man American?
- I agree. His songs are very soothing and calming. I think this one would be my favorite too. I'd have to go through all the songs to pick another. My memory is bad for this sort of thing. Thanks for the share. I'm listening to it now.
- I do... He was a Modern Country "minstrel" of sorts... He could've taken his guitar ANYWHERE in the World- & people would've LOVED His Songs- even if they didn't understand the words... To this DAY- I can't HELP but sing along- when I hear "Country Roads" on the Radio... But Ironically, my FAVOURITE Song of His- is not EVEN His; It's His version of "Oh Holy Night"- the Christmas Classic !!! It's SO simple & beautiful...-I can't HELP but be moved to reflect upon the "Reason for the Season..."-every time I hear it. He Truly WAS a wonderful Musician... :)
- pretty lyrics, yes, a poet fave? I will have to get back to ya edit: that didn't take long. like Rocky Muntain HIgh but here are lyrics to Catch a Butterfly Do you remember days Not so very long ago When the world was run by People twice your size And the days were full of laughter And the nights were full of stars And when you grew tired you Could close your eyes Yes the stars were were there for wishin And the wind was there for kites And the morning sun was There for rise and shine And even in the sniffles Kept you home from school in bed You couldnt hardly Stay there after nine And I wonder if the Smell of mornings faded What happened to the robins Song that sparkled in the sky Wheres all the water gone That tumbled down the stream Will I ever catch another butterfly Right in your own backyard Wondering how airplanes could fly And the hours spent just playing With a funny rock you found With crystal specks as Blue as all the sky Now I watch my son Hes playing with his toys Hes happy and i Give him all I can But I cant help feeling Just a lime inside When to hear him say He wants to be a man
- I've loved John Denver for as long as I can remember. He was great, a true and all-around singer/songwriter/poet. Every now and then I will listen to his music and tear up. My favorite is "Back Home Again". When I was in Kindergarten way back in 1969 we had a substitute teacher who would sing "Leaving on a Jet Plane" for us, I cannot remember her name, but I remember the modern flower print thigh high dresses she wore and her bouffant hairdo.
- Great lyrics .. i dont think there is anything of his i dont like. But the one i love is Country home. take me home...cause i can play that one on the guitar.
- Country Roads. Annie's Song. I love his songs, their lyrics convey a lot: love, belonging, admiration u name it.
- he never got the recognition he deserved. as a singer and a great poet
- im not sure he wrote this but he did a good job singing it and its my favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65hOhj94ZGE&feature=related
- That is one of my favorites.
- His voice is what makes the song live and with the girl you love in your arms. We dance among the stars soar high, no fear of falling warmth of love not ending.
- I love that song! I sang it at a friend's wedding many years ago. Poetry is music. I think that's why poets have Muses.
- indeed the very first song i could 'tinkle' on a piano is annie's song, i stopped learning, but still but plan to... i hope to play it in full one day...
- My son could sing John Denver songs before he could talk, and YES, he was a singing poet. I was one of his biggest fans and still have all his music. The two songs you posted happen to be two of my favorites! yeah, yeah, I'm a geek for lovin' his stuff...so be it.
- i sang it as i read it. i think that was his best, but i also like "thank god i'm a country boy".
- You got it in one,Ma.
- Yes wonderful, and so many of the best end tragically, I often wonder why...........TY for the sites.
- He sang America the Beautiful and God Bless America in his unique way of wording, music, and voice. He was a committed poet who pledged his words to exhibit the dimensions of beauty in Nature and Human relations. In his songs you can feel his strong attachment to the land, family, home, spirituality and so on. He was and still is one of my favorites. I like Country Roads and Rocky Mountain High.
