Will Rene Miller sing the Black National Anthem if Obama is elected?
A jazz singer shocked some Denver residents after replacing the words to the national anthem with those of the "Black National Anthem" during the annual State of the City address this week. Rene Marie was asked to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper delivered the annual address on Tuesday. Instead, she sang the lyrics of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" — a hymn commonly referred to as the "Black National Anthem" — to the tune of the national anthem, MyFOXColorado.com reported. Obama said if this national anthem is sung instead he will place his hand over his heart this time. http://www.watchfreeepisodes.com/black-national-anthem-rene-marie-video-from-denver-singing-lift-every-voice-and-sing-negro/802/

- Yes. And she won't apologize for it, again.
- How old is this? 6 months?
- omg...well I guess it would be better than bowing to a golden Idol...or that will be next.
- In alot of places, "America the Beautiful" is sung instead of "the Star Spangled Banner" and that is accepted. Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing is a great hymn. I wouldn't mind hearing it. But I guess you racists wouldn't like that.
- She will sing it no matter who wins the election. Which has nothing to do with Obama.
- I'm sick of this crap. You knew better than that before you asked it. All I've heard is,"he won't salute the flag", not during the Pledge of Alllegiance, but the National Anthem. Then it was the flag pins. No one mentioned that during the 3 debates (and please go back and check this because I am right) Obama wore a flag pin and McCain never did.
- Thanks for sharing. I'd never heard of this song. What beautiful lyrics! Quite a step up from what is basically "is the flag still flying over the fort". It seems rather demeaning to set it to music that was a British drinking song though. Lift Every Voice and Sing by James Weldon Johnson Lift ev'ry voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the list'ning skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast'ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered. We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land.
- There is no Black National Anthem. http://www.nationalblackrepublicans.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=pages.NewsandViews&x=9078700
